I really thought this was over last year, but I was wrong. So tonight, I was set to work 6 hours. Perfect, I needed extra money since I’m getting my apartment soon and I really did not feel good so I didn’t want to go out. Instead, no one showed up for after me. To be fair, the girl who was supposed to come didn’t realize no one took her shift (although she also never checked with me when I told her I was trying to find coverage). However, when I posted it in the all staff group…nothing.
I also want to say that my particular staff this year is awesome. Like, they’re ALWAYS on top of their game and while we have a few weak links, overall this is not a reflection on them. I debated calling RA’s who were off duty to take over, but when I thought about it I couldn’t bring myself to do it. There were two specifically I thought to call, but one of them went to go visit his girlfriend and the other one deserved one night to herself. She’s always here and she made these adorable gifts for her residents and I was like “oh hell no” when I thought about calling. It would be unfair to put her in such a position on her night off and I have too much respect for what RA’s do to want to do that.
My irritation comes from the all staff group. I KNOW I posted it late at night right before, but so did one other staff for their desk. And I KNOW that it’s Halloween weekend. But there’s no way every employee tonight was gone and unavailable.
I finally got a hold of one of my co-workers who now is on her way. I feel awful about it but I’m also relieved. I started falling asleep and a resident came in and it’s uncomfortable to be that bad at my job tonight.
I’m just peeved with this system. I’m also worried that we’re all going to get into trouble since technically what I did was illegal.
